There is a moment that happens somewhere between leaving one place and arriving at another.
It is a moment that rarely appears on maps.
It might be a quiet two-lane highway where cabbage palms sway above forgotten fences. It might be the shimmer of a marsh just after sunrise, when the mist still hangs over the water and an osprey circles silently overhead. It might be an old gas station where the coffee is surprisingly good and the conversations are better.
For years I chased destinations.
The famous beaches. The celebrated springs. The iconic lighthouses. The state parks everyone photographs.
But somewhere along the way I realized that Florida’s greatest treasures often exist between those places.
The road itself became part of the adventure.
Every county carries its own rhythm. Every back road tells a slightly different story. Some are written in citrus groves, others in pine forests, cattle ranches, fishing villages, or sleepy downtowns that seem to have quietly ignored the passage of time.
That is the Florida I find myself returning to.
Not because it is famous.
Because it is authentic.
The Sunshine Republic has never really been about attractions. It has been about discovery.
It is an invitation to slow down, take the scenic route, and remember that sometimes the best memories are made when you pull over simply because something caught your eye.
Florida still has countless stories waiting just beyond the next bend in the road.
Those are the stories I hope to keep finding
